Home Gym Set-Up

Buy Local or Buy Via Internet

Working out at home has so many advantages.  Convenience, time saver, reduced expense, privacy and eliminating that intimidation factor of going to a gym or health club.

Setting yourself up to workout at home doesn't have to cost you a lot and it isn't as confusing as you would think.

If you can, buy local to support your local merchants and economy.  Small independent sporting goods stores might be a little higher price-wise, but you'll usually get better service.  However, big box stores most often will have a better selection and lower prices.

Below are suggestions for home gym set up.  If you can't find the listed items or don't feel like going out, just click on the items within the:

Coach Debs’ Perform Better Store

and you'll be hooked up with a link to purchase via the internet.  You won't need a ton of equipment to get started.  There's so much we can do with a few items and your body weight.  Also, if you've got any questions before shopping, feel free to drop me a line at deb@coachdebfitness.com.

Usually found in pairs. Women might start with a pair of 5lb and 8lb dumbbells and Men could start with a pair of 10lb and 15 or 20lb dumbbells.

  • Sliders

Found in pairs Can also be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes sold as furniture sliders.  Much more economical @$9.99 for 2 pr.

  • Foam Roller

Foam rollers are one of the most versatile additions to your home gym.  My most favorite and necessary use is for Self Myo-Fascial Release (a type of self massage) that really helps get out those knots and adhesions we get from working out and the activities of our every day life.  You can also use your roller for balance, core and strength training.

Fun and Versatile Extras

  • TRX Suspension Trainer

Haven't seen this sold in stores as of yet, but it's an awesome tool that you can use anywhere.  Hence the name of the company who makes them "Fitness Anywhere".  Use it at home, when traveling, indoors, outdoors, parks, beach wherever.

  • Kettlebells

Helps develop total body strength, power, and endurance. Kettlebells work the body across a wide range of angles. Increases your dynamic flexibility. Off-centered weight of kettlebells increases the demand placed on core stabilization, agility, and proprioception. Use for squats, throws, cleans, jerks, snatches, rotational swings and more.

  • Adjustable Dumbbells

If you've got some extra cash and you'd like to save on space, adjustable dumbbells are the way to go.  Although in my opinion they're a little clunky, they're versatile.
