Fix Your Mouse Shoulder

Seems like almost everyone I run into lately has got this nagging tight and sometimes burning pain right at the top of their shoulder blade usually on the right side.

So in today’s “tweak your stuff” video, I’m going to show you one of my favorite mouse shoulder relief fixes.

Here’s a summary of the two part process.

Part 1 – Smashing out the knots

We need to smash out that muscle and fascia knot that’s causing all your misery.  Take your ball and place it on the floor and then position your back between your spine and your shoulder blade on top of the ball slowly.  Ease down on top of it trying to keep your ribs as flat as possible.  Then slowly move your straightened arm on that side up and down with the goal of reaching over your head.  When you get to a sticky painful spot hang out there and move your arm back and forth smashing that tissue until you start to feel some relief.  Spend at least 2 minutes working that ball all around the rim of your shoulder blade.  If you find a place that’s really cranked up just keep working that until you feel a change.

Part 2 – Stretching out the shoulders and chest

For the stretch piece you can use your kitchen counter, desk or whatever’s about the height of your kitchen sink.  Take your right hand and grab on to the counter palm facing down then grab the counter with your left hand. The closer your hands are together the tougher the stretch.  Keeping your shoulders back straighten your arms lean forward and then if you can stand it increase the stretch by dropping your body down.  The goal is to try to get your hands and your shoulders in a straight line without compensating and contorting your body.  Also try to hold the most uncomfortable position for at least 2 minutes.  That’s where the magic happens.
